On The Road with Takeuchi: Bauma 2025

In early April, we packed up our lederhosen and said “auf wiedersehen” to our friends and family in the U.S. as we headed overseas to the bauma show in Munich!

Upon arrival, the weather was perfect. Sunny, clear skies and cool temperatures welcomed us, revealing the snow-covered Bavarian alps as an ideal backdrop for the world’s largest construction trade show, which happens in Munich every three years. The excitement in the air was palpable as massive crowds flocked to the exhibition halls, eager to explore the latest innovations in the construction industry and connect with friends, dealers and equipment manufacturers from all over the globe.

At the show, which took place from April 7 to 13, we displayed two new electric excavator prototypes, the TB10e and TB35e. Also on display was the TB20e electric excavator in a new cab configuration.

“At Takeuchi, we understand that environmental responsibility is a global priority,” said Clay Eubanks, director, sales and aftersales, for Takeuchi. “As demand for eco-friendly, zero-emission equipment grows, we’re committed to expanding our electric product line—delivering excavators that provide the same power and productivity customers expect, without the emissions.”

Here are some quick details about the new prototype Takeuchi machines that were on display at bauma 2025:

TB10e: The new TB10e prototype weighs in at 1,180 kgs (2,600 lbs.) with compact dimensions to fit in even tighter spaces than its predecessor, the TB20e. The excavator offers an impressive dig depth of 5.8 feet, a maximum reach of 10.8 feet, and a bucket breakout force of 2,518 lbf. Its electric motor provides 12.6 kW of power, and its 87.6V battery has a capacity of 9.9 kWh, for up to two hours of working time when fully charged in Standard mode and up to four hours when in ECO mode. Full charge time ranges from three hours when using the external charger to 4.5 hours using the onboard version. Built for all-weather operation, it performs reliably in temperatures ranging from -15°C to 45°C (5°F to 113°F).

TB35e: Delivering powerful, zero-emission performance with an advanced electric powertrain designed for demanding jobs, the TB35e prototype weighs in at 3,960 kg (8,730 lbs.), making it the largest electric excavator in Takeuchi’s current lineup. The TB35e features dual 10.8 kW electric motors and a 49.3 kWh battery, providing up to two hours of runtime in Standard mode and four hours of runtime in ECO mode. With a maximum dig depth of 3,205 mm (10.5 feet) and a reach of 5,430 mm (17.8 ft), it offers exceptional versatility, while its bucket breakout force of 6,092 lbf. ensures strong digging performance.

TB20e (Cab Configuration): The new 4,685 lb. cab model TB20e is slightly heavier than the current canopy model. Its 12.6 kW electric motor is powered by a 24.7 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers a continuous working range of up to eight hours, depending on application and environment. The TB20e has a maximum dig depth of 7.8 ft and a maximum reach of 13.4 ft.

In addition to these machines, the Takeuchi booth featured 11 other excavator models and two track loaders. Product and sales experts were on hand to answer attendee questions and help determine the ideal Takeuchi machine for any application.

“Bauma is always a wonderful opportunity for Takeuchi to showcase our latest products and prototypes to a global audience,” said Toshiya Takeuchi, president of Takeuchi. “Our stand at bauma reflects Takeuchi’s innovative spirit, as well as our ongoing quest to better understand our customers’ needs and then develop products that uniquely answer those needs.”

As we explored Munich beyond the exhibition, we were captivated by its rich history, stunning architecture and vibrant culture. Munich has one of the most impressive public transit systems in the world, but we struggled to navigate it just because it is so large and new to us. We might have gotten lost a couple times, but we called it “exploring the city.” We managed to visit the city center and the iconic Marienplatz. Germans love beer, and lots of it! They also have an affinity for meat, bread and chocolate, so we felt right at home at local restaurants.

Munich is a beautiful city that offers something for everyone. The city’s blend of modernity and tradition was evident everywhere, making our stay truly unforgettable amidst the bustling atmosphere of bauma. We’re already looking forward to the next bauma in 2028!
